book give away!

so, i've decided to have a little fun and give away one of the books i reviewed on these here internets. (yes, i constitute fun as giving away good books so others can read them. take that as you will.)

back in november i reviewed, or what others might call, gushed over, rivka galchen's atmospheric disturbances. well, now you can hold the very same book i read, in your sweet, little book-loving hands. all you have to do is leave a comment in this post with a link or url to your website, facebook or twitter (so i can get a hold of you, if you are the wiener) and perhaps a few words about yourself, what you're reading or a recipe for oatcakes. whatevs, kids, it's up to you. i'll choose the winning comment using a random number generator because i'm fair like that.

the best part about this book, like a lot of my books, it comes well loved. you'll not only get a really great novel to enjoy but you'll also get a coffee stained book sleeve that was chewed on by my best friend's puppy and it's full of marginalia by me. i compulsively and somewhat randomly highlight, underline and make notes when i read. i've always enjoyed this in books i unearth in second hand stores, there's something really charming about reading someone else's thoughts on the very book you're reading. if you're into this sort of thing too, leave a comment, it won't hurt.

you have until friday, january 21st @ 12:00pm pacific standard time to leave your comments.

I am excited to be the wiener!Although I may only be the first poster. I'm reading Iodine by Haven Kimmel ~ written in the first person by a psychotic young woman living in solitare,a victim of vilolent child abuse & attempted exorcism. Hard to figure at the get go, but once you realize you are hearing it from inside her mind its pretty awesome. If you like that sort of thing. :) Coralee

I think that you should find your way into publishing and become a professional book critic! The descriptions you give of the books that you read make me want to read every single one!!

In the fireplace

Two logs burn serendipitously

But I want another blanket
They say the snow

Will last until tomorrow

Now and then

A branch pops up like a soggy spring

Shaking off the weight of white

Given the circumstance of seasons

Living like this is not so bad

But take away the heat

And you know what’s left

Flames growing smaller

Eyes licking the future

Dry pine burning its sparks into ash

I’m melting into an orange ego sunset

It’s not living like this

Hand me another drink

I’ve been failing all day

Make me make-believe

That electricity lasts

That the universe will keep pulling

Its minutes out of me

Sing me the song I need to hear

We can keep this a secret

I have never really loved anyone

janina - thanks for the poem. it's wonderful. he sort of reminds me of bukowski in his every-day--alcoholic-man-ness.

joelene - i'm definitely planning on doing this again and the contest ends this friday, so you're technically entered. hurray!

natalie - i pretended that i didn't remember that i told you that. if your stars aren't in your favor, i'll send you something delightful to make up for it.

oh yo!
I like books and you.
I hope postage is inculded in this contest.
or I mean you could hand deliver it.
That'd be cool.

so I am reading Runaway by Alice Munro
Can I say I don't love it,
I got it for 1.25 at Frenchys
I love a good used book from Frenchys
What a deal!

postage is in fact included in the contest (that would be mean to charge you postage).

i haven't read runaway but am generally an alice munro fan, although i find i have to be in a certain head space for her.

good luck in the contest and thanks for stopping by!

I love that you highlight and make comments when you read....there was a time that I did just that, but for some reason I stopped....why? That's it, I'm starting again, because it makes me feel that much more connected to what I'm reading....I LOVE YOU! xo
